Connie Tiegel, Cycles #1
What was I thinking? I have participated in a “cycles” type project before and found that I enjoyed the pondering of inspiration pieces in order to make my response. I am looking forward to doing the same with this project. Because the participants are different people I am anticipating different inspirations to ponder.
For the first piece I chose simple basic rectangular shapes for the foreground and pieced rectangular shapes for the background. They are vague enough to be whatever the viewer wanted them to be. I thought this was a good basis for inspiration for the other participants.
If I have to put “reality” to them I would say they are trees or piers or cement towers. But I prefer the abstract idea of strength and boldness and individuality.
Materials: cotton, thread
Techniques: dye, machine stitch, raw edge appliqué
I assembled the blocks in the order they were made. It seemed the most logical and understandable way to express our “Cycles” project. I loved that Maria’s block,#12, was very close to mine ,#1, and really brought the process full circle.
