Lynda Williamson, A Fine Winter's Day
My Cycles block was inspired by nature and at the time it was winter in Alberta, Canada. I chose to work with Procion MX dyes, mono-print with acrylic and then hand stitch with hand dyed cotton thread. I wanted to represent winter and it’s stillness with the clear blue skies we see here in the foothills of the Rockies. At this time of the year the fields are dormant with just the hint of what lies beneath the snow.
I discovered working on the Cycles project really challenged my creativity. I would ask myself, “How does this person’s work make me feel and how can I respond in my artistic voice?” I also set parameters for myself — use techniques that reflected my skills, use only fabrics that I had created and to try and hand stitch on every Cycle block that I designed. I am pleased to say this project has allowed me to develop and strengthen my artistic voice.
