Mary-Ellen Latino

Mary-Ellen Latino, Sanctuary

    Sanctuary

My artwork is inspired by Nature’s magic and a fascination while exploring the world. As I contemplated the initial piece for 12 Cycles, my recent trip to France conjured up boundless ideas.

While the sun rhythmically danced upon the glistening water, memories of an alluring lily pond kept tugging at my heart. Claude Monet’s sensual impressionist paintings came flashing back.

“Nature always wears the colors of the spirit”. Ralph Waldo Emerson

Could I portray the beauty, ‘still’ movement, color and light that I remembered? How would the Westie members react to the piece? To my delight each artist responded in thoughtful, unique and abstract ways to depict their moment in time.

“When our eyes are graced with wonder, the world reveals its wonders to us. . . . So much depends on how we look at things. The quality of our looking determines what we come to see. . . . When we beautify our gaze, the grace of hidden beauty becomes our joy and our sanctuary.” —John O'Donohue
